Chris “Macca” McCormack is best known as being the reigning Ironman Triathlon World Champion who is currently got his sights set on making the London 2012 Olympic team for Australia.
What many people don’t realise is Chris is perhaps the most accomplished triathlete in the history of the sport. He’s won championships at all levels, was a former ITU World Champion and held the number 1 position for a total of 26 months before making the leap to Ironman. He’s won most of the flagship events around the globe.
Late last year, he stunned the triathlon community when he decided to return to ITU racing after winning in Kona in 2010, with the clear ambition of qualifying for the Olympics…the one missing piece in his career.
No one said he could do it. Too old. Too far removed from that style of racing. Too hard for his body to adapt.
He hasn’t had a great season by any standard – partially due to injury and other racing commitments – but he still believes.
Always a great interviewee, Chris talks candidly with Competitor Radio on how to beat Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee, the importance of a race strategy and the winning mindset that’s needed to be at your best. Plus, he gives his view on how the sport will continue to evolve. A must listen for all triathlete fans.
