Triathlon is shaping up to be one of the marquee events at the London 2012 Olympics. Not only is the strong field of women and men featuring home nation favourites – Helen Jenkins, Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee – but the course is one of the few venues that is widely open to the public.
With seven laps of the bike segment passing in front of Buckingham Palace, it is sure to create a buzz with the fans and media alike.

The course won’t be the toughest on the ITU circuit (in fact, many argue it should be more challenging) but that means we can all expect a pure race.
There was a fair amount of controversy with team selections – most notably with Great Britain and Australia – where some opted for employing their third athlete as ‘domestiques’. That choice means an added dimension for viewers to look for and will most certainly leave much for debate as to what is best, or even what is right in the spirit of the sport.
